Pendulum
You swung into my life,
with the force of tsunamic change.
The cyclic motion began,
unnoticed.
We moved with the sea and moon
and the Earth’s rotation.
The lilting accent of our tempo
shifted recurringly between gravity and
ethereal
We were the in-between
Between the promise and the duty
Between drawn together and dragged apart
Between certainty and contradiction
Between the pulse of love and the rhythm of
emptiness
We reach, we withdraw.
The opposing poles of our magnetic hearts
Choreographed the ritual of return.
We cling, we release.
Straining the paradox of longing.
Emotions swelled and ebbed against the endless brutality of
time
The pendulum moves, but it never travels.
It covers distance without ever arriving.
we move, but never together.
However,
As long as motion exists in the universe, I will always return.
As long as briny seas caress earthy shores, I will reach for……
